Harry Potter Night
I read the First Harry Potter book to the Littles each night before bed last month. Let me rephrase. I read the First Harry Potter book to Indie while Stella and Finn sat absently next to us chowing down on popcorn every night. Indie was enthralled. Stella and Finn were snack bribed into quiet and we all had fun and went through a lot of popcorn. Win win win.
I didn't want the fun to end, so I decided to throw a fun little first movie viewing party for these guys. Complete with Hogwarts acceptance letters. I would have done a sorting ceremony but Indie is fiercely adamant that she is a Gryffindor through and through. Stella by default has caught Indie's passion, which has even trickled down to little Griffin. But I mean, come on, how could Finn be anything but a Gryffindor with his name.
Oh ya, and there were wands.
I was worried about a few parts in the movie. We haven't yet dealt with nightmares in any of the kids and I didn't want to break that streak. Or Traumatize anyone. So, anytime something scary in the movie happened we all just whipped out our wands and helped the actors defeat it. Cheering and high five-ing the kids when the danger had passed. Seemed to do the trick, for our girls. Finn needed no aid as he is on constant bad guy alert and spent most of the movie glued to the screen and actively pointing his wand at anything that moved.
The kids would slip in and out of watching the movie to play their own games of imagination with their wands. I forgot how long the movie is. We ate pizza, chocolate frogs, butterbeer, attempted Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans (Finn was so into trying every single one. Not detoured even after eating earthworm, rotten egg, pepper, and several other disgusting ones)
The girls slept under the candle lit sky that night, Indie admitted before falling asleep; 'At first I thought this was the worst day ever (because of all the waiting) but now I know its the best day EVER!' I agree sweet girl.
