Myra is born!

June 3rd we induced Myra. One day before her due date. My Dad & Laura came down to stay with the kids while we did that familiar early morning ride to the hospital. Dark sky's just starting to fill with the sounds of birds and light on the horizon. It's always surreal, knowing how much your world is about to change.

We started the induction, and struggled through another epidural that didn't quite take. (forever I'll be chasing that perfect epidural I had with Indie).  Damon and I talked back and forth.  We reminisced with our nurse about trips, and nature, with the occasional curse to covid for changing the world.

Within 4-5 hours Myra was born. 2 Contractions and a couple of pushes and she was here.  The Ob asked if I wanted to reach down and pull out my baby. No thanks. No thank you, Sir.  And just like that, baby was on my tummy, crying her little head off for the next 30 mins.

My right leg was so numb from the anesthesia. (We'd given my body as many hits of medication as possible trying to get it to spread to my left side as well. Which it did not cover until it was time to push. Which was about the last 5 mins...Comin in clutch epidural!) Well that right leg was so numb I didn't feel or notice when it fell out of the stirrup and rested nicely against the Ob's face as he attempted to finish delivery.  Ops! He was like, 'ummm, a little help?' To the oblivious nurses.

Damon and I had a long list of over 20 names that we refused to discuss any further until baby was here.  He was adamant that she'd be named Myra. I liked two other names better, but when I saw her I just couldn't make them fit...enough. I didn't love them enough to fight Damon over his love of Myra.

That first night in the hospital was the hardest night we've ever had with one of our newborns. (Or children.) Apparently Myra swallowed a lot of amniotic fluid and spent the entire night unable to sleep, uncomfortable, choking, gagging, and desperate for comfort. Damon and I took turns trying to soothe her.

Going home.  Happy Birthday little one.

  1. What were your other 2 names? Myra fits perfect with her!
